Where Tradition Meets Transformation

THE ART OF HANDMADE — ROOTED IN PURPOSE

Mahashakti Seva Kendra has been reviving natural dye block printing, kalamkari, zari embroidery, jute crafts, khadi work, and cotton artisanry since the early 1990s. What began as a livelihood mission for women affected by the Bhopal Gas Tragedy has grown into a thriving craft ecosystem rooted in sustainability, creativity, and dignity.

Today, our artisans create eco-friendly, chemical-free textiles and handcrafted products that honor India’s rich craft heritage while supporting women’s economic independence.

Dozens of handmade collections produced

Handcrafted from waste, designed for the planet.

We innovate by handcrafting products from fabric waste. The materials are sourced through city-wide clothing donation drives and local boutiques. Each item we create is one-of-a-kind. By purchasing from us, you not only support the skilled artisans behind these products but also contribute to protecting the planet—choosing upcycled goods that help reduce the burden on landfills.

Every Craft Tells a Woman’s Story

MEET THE HANDS BEHIND THE HERITAGE

From dye mixing to block carving, from intricate zari threads to freehand kalamkari strokes—each product carries the dedication, skill, and cultural memory of the women who create it.Through traditional Indian crafts like block printing, kalamkari, tailoring, zardosi embroidery, and natural dyeing, these women found both healing and hope.

Reviving a Mughal-Era Art with Zero Chemicals

BLOCK PRINTING WITH NATURAL DYES

Since the early 1990s, our artisans began experimenting with natural ingredients such as iron, pomegranate peel, fruit skins, mud, herbs, and minerals to achieve rich, earthy colors. After months of trials—washing, sun-drying, dye mixing—they mastered a chemical-free block printing process.

Today, MSK artisans create:

  • Hand-printed cotton tunics

  • Naturally dyed scarves

  • Eco-friendly bags

  • Home linen with earthy, long-lasting colors

Each piece is printed by hand using traditional wooden blocks—an art preserved and passed down through generations.

Painting Culture, Mythology, and Nature onto Fabric

KALAMKARI — THE ART OF FREEHAND STORYTELLING

“Kalam” means pen, “kari” means art. Kalamkari at MSK began when we discovered that many women were gifted natural painters. With support from the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, our Kalamkari programme grew into a full-scale creative unit.

Our artisans now create:

  • Hand-painted bedsheets

  • Decorative bedcovers

  • Wall hangings and panels

  • Custom art-based textiles

Every stroke is freehand—no stencils, no machines—just imagination flowing directly onto fabric.

A Royal Craft Brought Back to Life

BHOPAL’S ZARI & ZARDOSI WORK

Zardosi once flourished in the princely courts of Bhopal. Over time, the tradition faded—until MSK revived it by training women in this intricate art form using gold, silver, and metallic threads.

Our products include:

  • Traditional Bhopal Batua

  • Zardosi saree borders

  • Neck-pieces & bridal embellishments

  • Custom evening wear

Each piece blends heritage craftsmanship with modern design needs.

  • Utility pouches

  • Tote bags

  • Mixed-fabric designs

These products are durable, stylish, and entirely handmade.

KHADI — REIMAGINED FOR TODAY

Khadi, once the fabric of India’s freedom movement, is now reinvented at MSK with contemporary designs.

Our signature products:

  • Solid-color khadi tunics

  • Premium table covers

  • Custom khadi products

Pure, breathable, and ethically sourced—khadi remains a symbol of strength and simplicity.

Soft, Versatile, and Perfect for Everyday Wear

COTTON — OUR SIGNATURE STARTING POINT

Cotton remains the most widely used material at MSK. We prioritize organic cotton whenever possible, pairing it with natural dyes and block prints.

We create:

  • Scarves

  • Kurtas & tunics

  • Handcrafted bags

  • Home textiles

Cotton brings comfort; our artisans add soul.

Every Piece Carries the Strength, Skill, and Spirit of the Women Who Create It
