Water Research & Community Health

SAFE WATER, STRONGER COMMUNITIES

Researching Water Quality to Prevent Disease & Build Healthier Futures

Mahashakti Seva Kendra has launched a focused research initiative in Alirajpur District, one of the most fluoride-affected regions of Madhya Pradesh. Excessive fluoride in drinking water has been causing dental and skeletal fluorosis—impacting children, families, and entire villages.

To address this urgent issue, MSK is partnering with Columbia University, combining scientific research with local knowledge. Together, we aim to create a district-wide fluoride mitigation plan that can help prevent long-term health damage and ensure safe drinking water for thousands of people.

1.Understanding the Fluoride Problem

  • Fluorosis is a major public health issue in Alirajpur due to high fluoride levels in groundwater.

  • Excess fluoride affects bones, teeth, and overall mobility—especially in young children.

  • Communities often rely on untreated borewell water, increasing health risks.

2. Fluoride Mitigation Through Research & Action

  • MSK is collaborating with Columbia University experts to study fluoride patterns across villages.

  • Developing a district-wide mitigation plan for long-term community health.

  • Pilot interventions will help reduce exposure through water testing, awareness, and safe-water alternatives.

GRASSROOTS HEALTH PROTECTION POWERED BY SCIENCE & COMMUNITY

Empowering Tribal Communities Through Safe Water & Awareness

Our Water Research Initiative is more than a scientific project—it is a step toward restoring health, dignity, and opportunity in one of Madhya Pradesh’s most underserved areas.
By combining water testing, community awareness, and scientific support, MSK ensures that families understand risks, adopt safer practices, and gain access to solutions that protect their future.
Every drop of safe water becomes a step toward a healthier life.
